How AI Can Help Write Your Book

AI has taken the world by storm, sparking tons of debate and interest in the technology. Because of the speed at which it’s developing, the laws and regulations concerning AI and its generated content are a little messy and has everyone wondering whether it’s ethical to use AI to produce one’s work. At the Aaxel Author Group, we strongly believe in the integrity of the written word, and thus recommend that you don’t use it to actually write your book. That being said, there are certainly ways in which AI can be useful to writers. We’ve put together four ways that you can use AI as a tool to help you on your book journey.

1. Outlining Your Novel

If you already have an idea for your book, you can use AI to help generate a plot/outline for it. With some well thought out and detailed prompts inputted into the AI software of your choice, a helpful list of key plot points to hit can be produced to guide you in your book writing process.

If you are wondering how to word the prompt to generate an outline, here is an example:

Generate a plot outline for a romance novel set in a sleepy seaside town, where a young woman struggles to find purpose in her life.

2. Maintaining Consistency/Building a Glossary

When you’re several thousand words into a manuscript, it can sometimes be difficult to remember locations, character names, and other important information. Many authors will keep a running list of character profiles, terms, and other details to refer to when writing, but even then, mistakes can happen. AI can help with this by reviewing your document for inconsistencies and can also build a glossary from key terms in your book.

Here are two prompt examples to help with this task:

a) Create a glossary of important terms and concepts for my book on mental illness.
b) Identify any inconsistencies in my writing, such as character names and descriptions

3. Grammar and Spelling Revision

You might be familiar with AI grammar and spelling tools since they’ve been around a bit longer than some other tools. Though we still recommend having a living, breathing professional editor look over your manuscript, AI tools can help you with the initial edit you’ll need to do before submission. AI grammar and spell checkers are great at picking out any glaring issues with your writing and suggesting fixes to help you fix them.

4. Coming Up with Chapter and Book Titles

Coming up with titles for chapters and especially for books can be time-consuming and hard work. However, using AI software can make this process easier. With a prompt, you can ask your software of choice to provide you with a list of engaging titles.

To ask AI to make a list, you can prompt it with the following:

Create a list of 5 engaging and catchy titles for a romance novel set in a sleepy seaside town, where a young woman struggles to find the purpose in her life.

These are just some ways that you could use AI as a tool to help with your book writing without having it write your book entirely. However you choose to use AI to guide you in the writing process, always remember to be polite. After all, who knows where AI will be in a couple of years from now!
